Dynamics of electroporation of synthetic liposomes studied using a pore-mediated reaction, Ag+ + Br- -> AgBr
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to anlayze the dynamics of electric field-induced transient pore formation in 178 nm diameter synthetic unilamellar bilayer liposomes determined from the surfactant dioleoylphosphatidylcholine. Quasi-elastic light scattering was utilized to obtain the mean hydrodynamic diameter of vesicles. The Gilford Response II computerized spectrophotometer was utilized to determine the UV-vis absorption spectra. Results indicated that increases in pressure in the interior area of the liposome correlated with elongation.

Solution behavior of the zwitterionic surfactant octadecyldimethylbetaine
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to carry out a light scattering, viscosity, surface tension and cryo-TEM study on aqueous solutions of octadecyldimethylbetaine. The surfactant was synthesized and used without further purification. Experimental results indicated no temperature dependence in the viscosity or hydrodynamic radius. Findings also showed a better fit for the correlation functions with a two-decay time framework.

Highly ordered MCM-41 silica prepared in the presence of decyltrimethylammonium bromide
Article Abstract:
Research designed to identify simple recipes for the preparation of high quality MCM-41 silica using decyltrimethylammonium bromide is presented. It was established that lower molecular weight surfactants appear to be harder to self-organize, thus producing less ordered materials with broader pore size distributions.
